After the celebrations for Cell's long-waited defeat, Trunks said his goodbyes to the Z-fighters of the past and returned to the future. With his newfound strength, Trunks was able to exact revenge on the androids for murdering the Z Fighters of his time and he was able to stop Cell from traveling back to the past to wreck havoc. For the years following, all things in Trunks' timeline were peaceful, and every once in a while, he would revisit the alternate past timeline which he had created. It was five years later when the peaceful era Trunks had worked so hard to create was shattered. A man named Dr. Hypnos was able to steal Trunks' time machine and Bulma's blueprints for the Time Machine before traveling back into the past with the devious goal of universal domination. Dr. Hypnos arrived in Age 761 on the very day that Raditz arrived to Earth, a time at which he believed the Z-fighters were weak enough for him to work his magic and intercept the Dragonballs to make his wish. However, he remained cautious. Using his powers of Hypnosis and Mind Control, Dr. Hypnos attempted to bend Raditz and Goku to his will. He failed in controlling Goku as his powers could have no affect on the pure-hearted. Nonetheless, Dr. Hypnos commanded Raditz to gather the 7 Dragonballs and fend off Goku and the Z-fighters so that he could make his wish. Ultimately, the Z-fighters were defeated and incapacitated by Raditz. They failed in stopping him from getting the Dragon Balls. Just before Dr. Hypnos begins to make his wish, he was double-crossed by Raditz who broke free of the Mind Control with the intention of making his own wish. Dr. Hypnos came to the realization that the stubborn Saiyans could not have their will manipulated for long periods of time. Raditz soon found out that mind control wasn't Dr. Hypnos' only ability when the man projected his soul into Raditz's body and carried out his wish. It was a wish which would make him the most powerful immortal being in the universe. Goku could not stand for this. He challenged Dr. Hypnos with fierce strength, but was ultimately defeated and killed with ease. Piccolo was the next to go, and with his death brought an end to the Dragonballs. After watching Goku and Piccolo die before them, the rest of the Z-fighters lost their will to fight. Raditz fled the planet to convene with the other Saiyans (Vegeta and Nappa). Without any rival strong enough to pose a threat to him, in a short 15 years (Age 776), Dr. Hypnos had brainwashed all the normal people of Earth and built his own Kingdom in South City. He then activated his Brain Wave machine to extend his brainwashing to the rest of the universe. Dr. Hypnos' reign seemed solid, though hope would soon return as the middle-aged Trunks from the future made his way to this timeline in a new Time Machine to correct the wrongs that Dr. Hypnos had caused this past.
