Saiyans are outwardly very similar to any other Humans, with the exception of their monkey-like tails and a larger muscular build. They are commonly seen to have deep black hair although there have been rare occasions when they have also been shown to have brown and blue hair. The hair of a pure-blooded Saiyan does not deviate from its appearance the day the Saiyan is born.
Saiyans tend to share common personality traits, even at young ages. Being war-like people; they share an innate enjoyment for conflict and fighting; choosing violence over peace with other races. Even Goku retained his love to fight after his amnesia, but satisfied that love through competitive sport, rather than barbaric slaughter. Saiyans are typically very aggressive and hard-headed, with short explosive tempers. Saiyans appear inclined to be arrogant at times, leading them to allow enemies to gain advantages in battle just for fun.
Saiyans naturally possess exceptional strength - far greater than that of other humans and alien races - and are quintessentially built for fighting. If a Saiyan survives a near-death experience through extreme injury to the body, then, when the body recuperates, the Saiyan grows much stronger than they were previously, their body adapting to compensate for the damage dealt. The duration of recovery does not seem to hinder this ability as Saiyans have healed through natural, technological and mystical means and still gained substantial increases in strength. Saiyans also appear able to heal from injuries at a faster rate than normal humans and possess a greater deal of durability to damage.
Techniques
- Flight: The ability to fly with the use of Ki
- Afterimage: The user moves at ultrahigh speeds, leaving an afterimage where he was previously located.
- Ki Blast: The most basic form of energy wave. It is similar to Kamehameha but lacks the raw power of a signature blast.
- Explosive Wave: Using their naturally high Ki, a Saiyan projects a wave of it from his or her body to blow back all enemies.
- Ki Sense: The ability to sense the Ki of others.
- Masking: The ability to manipulate one's own Ki signature. This can make the user undetectable.
- Power Ball: A ball of Blutz ray, which simulates the effects of a full moon to allow a Saiyan with a tail to become a Great Ape.
- Saiyan Soul: When angered, the Saiyan's Power Level can increase by a factor of 1.3.
- Chou Makouhou: A powerful concentrated ki blast which is fired from the mouth.
Transformations
Great Ape: Great Ape is a giant, monkey-like creature that Saiyans can transform into to increase their enormous strength. In order for the transformation to take place, the Saiyan still needs to have a tail, as the glands responsible for initiating the transformation are located exclusively there. He also needs to absorb at least 17 million zeno units of Blutz Waves. Blutz waves are found only in sunlight reflected by a moon. If there is no moon, a planetary body will reflect the same amount of rays. The easiest way to achieve this is to gaze at the full moon, making Saiyans similar to werewolves in this aspect.
A Great Ape's power level is equal to the Saiyan's power level prior to the transformation multiplied by ten. The color for the Great Ape's fur is usually brown and eyes are red as well. A Saiyan loses the ability to reason in this form, and will typically display berserk and destructive characteristics, even in the cases of protagonists. However, they still seem to retain some sense of friend and foe deep within their subconscious, which can be awoken. Saiyan Elites, however, learn to control themselves, even when in ape form.Power Increase: 10x
Super Saiyan: Super Saiyan is an advanced transformation assumed by extraordinarily powerful members of the Saiyan race. The first Super Saiyan transformation occurs when a Saiyan who has reached a very high level of power, has a calm, pure heart (good or evil), and loses himself in a fit of rage.
