Gelid had made his way back to the southern edge of East City's crumbled remains. The expanses of rolling hills lay in front of him as he sat, deep in thought, upon a large boulder. His mind was affixed on two separate trains of thought, and he couldn't discern whether they would collide somewhere in the middle or rush off in opposite directions. He had begun to get a headache from thinking so much, too. His teeth gritted and a low growl escaped his lips as he sat there. He had met two changelings on this planet, and somehow they both seemed to be black and white in how different they were from every other member of his species that he'd met. One claimed to have been raised here, but Gelid knew next to nothing about the other.
One had tried to help him and the other had given him a far better fight than he had expected. Given his current predicament there wasn't much he could do about either situation. It was clear that Revas would need help if she were to take on Freiza and his forces, but Gelid was uncertain if he was willing to dive into such a reckless task for such a pathetic race as the humans. Perhaps if one or two of them showed him that they were willing to fight for their own survival he might change his mind. For now he was undecided on that matter, though.
Then there was Frostvite...Revas claimed that she had met him, too, and that she saw potential in him. Gelid had to agree with her in that regard. If he ever overcame his fears, whatever they were, Frostvite would be a truly strong fighter. Gelid only shook his head as he thought of being beaten by someone so afraid. Though their fight had been good, it had also show Gelid that he had several areas where he was lacking. Frostvite had proven to be much faster than him, but there was more than one way around that. The more difficult gap in their abilities was that the other changeling had range on his side. Gelid had a very limited number of long distance attacks, and this made his ranged assaults predictable and easy to defend against.
Visiting Revas again and perhaps finding out more about Frostvite would have to wait for another day. If he was going to interact more with either of them, he needed to broaden his arsenal of skills. Though it only slightly closed the gap between himself and Frostvite, learning a skill common throughout their species was the quickest route to doing so. Gelid's father, older brother, and Frostvite had all used this technique against him. Having witnessed it so many times was sure to make learning it easier, or so he thought.
Gelid leaped forward off the boulder and began ascending through the air, moving further from the boulder. He did a quick about face in the air and gazed down at the rock on which he was previously sitting. Some light practice with simple finger blasts should be a good start. Then I'll focus on steady streams. And I'll hopefully complete this training. His plan to complete the technique was short and simple, but given that it was second nature to his kind it should be suitable.
He wasted no time in getting started, raising his right hand with his index finger pointed at the stone below. He took it easy at first, loosing two or three light bursts of energy from his finger. He noted that the blasts already had a thin, elongated shape simply from focusing them from his fingertip. The blasts struck the boulder, but they only chipped it slightly. This was the initial result he expected, of course, but it was far from complete. He turned up his power a bit more.
As he forced the energy through one finger he noticed that the force welling up at his wrist nearly forced his hand open. He clenched his first tightly in response, and this seemed to maintain the energy flow only through his finger. A few more blasts escaped, this time taking fist sized chunks out of the boulder. Again he expected things as they had happened, and this confirmed his suspicions. It would take much better control of his energy than what he previously possessed in order to properly produce a Death Beam.
He ceased holding back his energy at all, letting his aura spring forth from his feet and rise upward to engulf his frame. I have to accept that things cannot be as I had hoped when I was growing up. Glaciel is gone, and I've no idea where to find either of the people responsible. I can't help but feel attached to the other two changeling's I've found here. They seem just as alienated by our kind as I am, albeit for different reasons. A changeling with fear and one with love and kindness in her heart...both are things I never expected to hear of in all my life. If we're to make it, we must unite. They are likely the only chance at allies that someone like me has on this hunk of dirt, anyway. What with the Earthlings hating our kind thanks to Freiza and Freiza's soldiers enslaving or killing everyone who opposes them my options are limited. His resolve strengthened with each moment as his mind processed the true depth of his situation.
His hand was still clenched save his index finger. He surged energy through his arm and compressed it as best he could into his index finger. His hand burned from the intensity and his muscles cramped, but the thin beam escaped his fingertip nonetheless. "Ggrrr..." A faint growl escaped his lips as he gritted his teeth from the pain. The beam stopped prematurely, and the consistency of energy density in the beam was distorted, both due to the pain. He drew his right arm back, clenching his wrist in his left hand and frowning. Perhaps going full force from the beginning was a mistake...but I can't let myself be outdone by Frostvite a second time.
"Hnn..." He opened his palm widely and twisted his forearm from side to side, working the cramps out. Revas wants to fight against Freiza and his ilk, but I don't know how strong she is. She said she's not strong enough on her own, but I doubt even I could stand up to his elite as I am right now, so that's not much of a gauge of her strength. His mind continued working through what he knew of the past few days. The deep thought gave him motivation to work harder, though. Even if he didn't know where his brother and father were, he did know they were still out there. And even if his potential allies were few in number and meager in skill, they were better than no allies at all. There was still the lingering feeling of some connection to them as well.
My mind is made up. After resting tonight I will find Revas again and we will look for Frostvite. Maybe I can convince them to work with me. He concluded his thoughts on those matters. He considered that his decisions may have been hasty, but he could find no other options that didn't end in immediate failure. On top of that he'd already gotten a headache earlier from thinking so much, so thinking further would certainly lead to bad conclusions. He popped his knuckles before raising his right arm once again. He formed a straight line with his arm starting at the shoulder and ending at his index finger's tip.
His energy flared yet again. A small bead formed at the end of his finger before zooming forward, forming into a sharp point at the end of a thread of Gelid's essence. Again his arm began to ache and cramp, burning with the excess of energy crammed into the space. By now there were two small holes bored through the rock, but the pain the technique had caused to Gelid told him that he was doing something wrong. He stopped for a moment, relieving the tension in his arm once more as he contemplated this.
Maybe I'm building up too much energy? Frostvite's attacks still hurt, and he seemed to be able to summon up the energy he needed in an instant. I know he was stronger than me, but surely the gap wasn't that wide. Perhaps the focus of the energy is the only thing that makes it differ from a basic blast? Compacting that amount of energy into a smaller package would give it the density to cause notable damage, in theory. It would also keep me from temporarily losing functionality in my arm after using it, too.
Gelid decided not to subject his right arm to further punishment in case he encountered trouble tomorrow. If it were heavily damaged or strained it could make things more difficult for him when he ventured into South City again. Instead he brought up his left arm in a similar fashion. The idea this time was to focus a constant level of energy through his finger so that a steady beam would form, but to keep the level at roughly the same required for a basic energy blast.
With this in mind, Gelid relaxed himself, letting his aura die down a little. He then directed the flow of his energy through his arm like before, but with much less force. Like water being shoved from a larger pipe into a smaller one, the speed caused by the pressure sent the beam from his finger at the impressive rate he'd come to expect from the technique after being hit by it so many times in his past. He halted the flow momentarily as it zoomed through the rock with ease. He fired off another, this time removing the piercing point at the end and instead letting the energy do what it normally did and explode on contact.
In one short burst the rock was blown apart from the inside thanks to the holes already made from the previous attempts. With a triumphant grin on his face, Gelid floated down to the grass below and laid back. I guess I was making a big deal about the technique and my situation. In the end the solution will prove to be simple if I only persevere. Story of my life...
